Before the experience, what did you think would happen?
I thought that it would be a straight forward task of putting it togethers like Lego. I think that I should be able to do this solo but my dad is here to help troubleshoot. I expect to learn how I should budget money and learning the different aspects of making a computer.
What did you expect to gain from an educational stand-point?
I felt that I would learn to manage money better. The world is full of choices and ways to waste all your money, so I want to learn how to manage that impulse as well. Instead of getting the highest end hardware get one step below it. I also expect to learn that I should not buy the next best if they don't have the piece I want as that can ruin the budget and the system. Patience is what I hope to get out of it also.
What new knowledge did you hope to gain from this experience?
I really wanted to learn about computer parts and how they effect the overall system. I hope to learn how to overclock the CPU and GPU as most professionals do it. This is very risky as if it is done wrong it could break the parts. I also hope to learn the names of the many different components in the computer and around it.
What new relationships did you gain from this experience?
I was able to meet and work with my dad and other people who have built computers. They treated as if this was my job and only helped when I asked or if something could have gone wrong. This showed my dad that I am serious about computers and the field of computer science.
How did you think you would benefit from your involvement?
I thought that I would benefit from this by commiting myself to the computer science field. This would allow me to idenitfy problems in softtware or hardware. I also think I would benifit from this by better understanding what a budget is. This I believe is key to life as without it your money spending can get out of control and ruin you.
